“You rely heavily on line.” An apt statement from a drawing teacher long ago. Truly I do. Blind contour drawing has served as a way to engage with my surroundings in public as well as activate the dialogue between my hand, eye and mind during figure drawing sessions. This vein of my work is in a layered blind contour technique I developed during Figure It Out! drawing nights at Vermillion Art Gallery. Half meditation, half hand eye coordination, this method gives me the freedom to focus on the form in front of me. In solo figure drawing sessions, I prefer to work with musicians and dancers—as I find them to be quite adept at sustained gazes and poses.
